bbts-mirissa

The most bio-diverse island of its size in the world, Sri Lanka has re-established itself as one of Asia’s most exotic and desirable travel destinations.

Jaw-dropping ancient and historical sites, incredible wildlife and picture-postcard beaches means a two week trip to the island can be as varied as a trip around an entire continent. Blessed with virgin rainforests, tea-covered mountains, fertile plains and arid wildernesses, Sri Lanka’s natural landscape is nothing short of spectacular, across the entire island.

You can enjoy the breathtaking archeology at the ancient capitals of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and the extraordinary "fortress in the sky" that is Sigiriya - all this and more in the so-called "cultural triangle".

The country’s many national parks make for great safaris and camping trips where you may be lucky to spot elephants, leopards and bears amongst the thousands of indigenous species of animals, birds and insects. Sri Lanka’s people, and the warm hospitality that exists throughout this vibrant island, is almost reason to visit in itself.

Sri Lanka is also has some of the best, most unique and most varied accommodation in Asia. From superb boutique hotels, wild jungle eco-lodges to a plethora of sumptuous tropical villas, the choices are endless.

So how can you choose from all this wonderful variety? Call us and our experts will help you!

We enjoyed a variety of experiences - spectacular hill country, beautiful beaches, temples, ancient cities, colonial archtecture. Our tour guide was very well informed and could give full historical accounts, explain the habits of elephants and answer any question we asked him. But some of the most interesting information was on a more social level. He had found us some newspaper cuttings of personal ads entered by parents seeking husbands for their daughters (and to a numerically lesser extent) seeking brides for their sons. He explained to us the importance of horoscopes when searching for an ideal partner. We know too that the dogs lie by the roadside because the vehicle fumes ease the skin condition that most of them have, and we were delighted to hear that monitors eat all things poisonous. Education is clearly very much valued and the school children (who flocked to all the religious and historic sites) were well behaved and beautifully dressed in white (!) uniform. We all love curries but the same curry dishes seemed to appear at every buffet. The people were delightful and we loved the wise sayings on the backs of the tuk-tuks. Sea beautiful but swimming has to be selective and cautious because of winds, breakers and strong currents. These random thoughts don't do justice to a unique country!

Our holiday in Sri Lanka was fabulous although at times we did feel a bit "templed out". The hotels were superb and the food fantastic.
The people of Sri Lanka are friendly, happy, and smiley and the children a joy to meet.
We had a very knowledgeable driver who made our trip all the more interesting, although the roads and traffic could at times be a bit "hairy". The sun shone on us throughout and insect bites were few and far between.
Relaxing on a Maldivian beach was the perfect end to our holiday

I am not one for indiscriminate and gushing comments. Total experience was memorable for the people and the landscape, but it is worth mentioning that you can't swim in the sea much as the currents are dangerous, and it can be cloudy and rainy. Insects will bite if you let them, and there is a tendency for tourists to be isolated from the locals. That is why we hugely enjoyed the Mudhouse , its food, its local people, and its real experience rather than the clinical excellence of air-conditioned boutique hotels. And it surprised me that all the important stuff is in English - a real colonial flavour - and it is a very civilised country. School children are beautifully turned out, and keen to learn, every Sri Lankan we met polite and very smiling and friendly - a confident and happy nation, with a great sense of humour. Just read the notices "please don't smoke or the ashes we receive may be yours" - "please be silent, hornets may awake" - and most wonderfully, "Ideation without exsacution is nothing more than a elusion". How true.

We absolutely loved Sri Lanka - especially the food, the friendliness of the people and the variety of landscapes and activities. We would just mention to anyone going on honeymoon that you do spend a lot of time in the car with your driver/tour guide so this is something to be aware - and it is very much an 'on the move' honeymoon with little relaxation time - we were glad to have arranged a combination of the Sri Lanka [and the Maldives] to find the mix of being busy in Sri Lanka and relaxing on the beach afterwards.

2 weeks at various places in SL. Amazing country and people. Fave places were tea hills (Madulkelle) and the Mudhouse. Wish we could have been there longer so as to take more time just being. Food amazing - breakfast curries really work! Driver a real sweetie and enhanced our stay.
