Cambodia, once one of Asia’s most troubled countries, is now a resurgent nation. Vibrant, welcoming and distinct, the country offers an often emotional chance to marvel at mankind’s incredible ability to both create and destroy.

The temples of Angkor are one of the true wonders of the world and are alone worth a trip to see. Built by the Khmer civilization between 802 and 1220 AD, they represent one of humankind's most astonishing and enduring architectural achievements. From Angkor the Khmer kings ruled over a vast domain that reached from Vietnam to China to the Bay of Bengal. The structures one sees at Angkor today, more than 100 stone temples in all, are the surviving remains of a grand religious, social and administrative metropolis.

Beyond Angkor lie many more treasures. The heart of Cambodia is the Tonle Sap, a vast lake which links Siem Ream and Phnom Penh. It is the largest lake in Asia. Don't overlook the south coast of Cambodia either. It has some pretty beaches and gorgeous islands. The mountains, rivers and rural towns of Cambodia offer so much to the explorer. There is also a rich colonial history which has left some noteworthy architecture and hybrid cuisine.

Tourism in Cambodia is relatively new, and only specialist operators can take you beyond the temples of Angkor to the many other fascinating facets of the country. Cambodia is a fascinating land to visit and is great when combined (by air, land or sea) with neighbouring Thailand or Vietnam.

This was the beginning of our trip to Cambodia and Vietnam and from arrival at the airport where the visa was promptly organised to the friendly competent guide the whole visit was relaxing and stress free.

Our itinerary was packed full of places to visit, travelling from country to country by plane, road and speedboat. At first we were a little bit daunted by our five weeks of travel but we needn't have been. Throughout our guides were friendly, informative and well organised. Our hotels ranged from boutique to luxury but all had been carefully chosen. Cambodia and Angkor Wat were so interesting, next on to Vietnam and Hanoi. Well what can I say about Hanoi, an experience just crossing a road! and vibrating with life. On to Ho Chi Minh City, the Cu Chi Tunnels were a sobering testament to ingenuity. Then by road and speedboat to Phnom Penn, the killing fields, sobering and very sad. The tuk tuk ride to a restaurant in Phnom Penn was scary but fun. On then to Thailand and Bangkok which was great. When unfortunately, due to an illness in the family, we had to return home early, Lyria, our consultant handled everything so expertly for us. I would not hesitate in recommending Experience Travel and hopefully we will be travelling with them again soon!

Cambodia was much hotter and humid than I expected, but after a seamless transition from airport to lovely hotel we felt we could cope with it all. Angkor Wat and it's environs were quite magnificent, Phnom Penh was fascinating - the King having just recently died and the terrible cruelty of the Pol Pot regime. Then the wonderful scenery, the Mekong and the surrounding waterways were spectacular. We enjoyed every minute of our stay. It was an excellent introduction to the country by a very competent tour company with their informative and friendly associated guides and drivers.

Everything from the initial planning of our holiday was a great experience. Lyria, our travel consultant, was very patient and accommodating and helped us to choose the right destinations and hotels to suit our needs. All our flights, transfers, trips and car journeys were perfectly timed to fit in with our itinerary and everybody was on time to pick us up. All pick ups were confirmed the day before so we were in no doubt that we would be collected on time. The guides on our trips were knowledgeable and helpful.
The Cambodian people were very helpful and friendly and the food was out of this world.
Our holiday was aan amazing experience thanks to the efficiency of Lyria from Experience Travel and the partners employed in Cambodia.
